July is #SarcomaAwarenessMonth, an opportunity to

July is #SarcomaAwarenessMonth, an opportunity to raise #awareness about a #cancer form that is less known and for which little research is being conducted. Simply, #sarcoma is still considered to be the “forgotten cancer.” Efforts to encourage research and drug development are made more challenging due to a lack of awareness and understanding. Friends of Charing Cross Hospital is joining the awareness campaign, along with many organisations like @sarcoma_uk @curesarcoma and @sarcomaalliance in their communication efforts.
During Sarcoma Awareness Month the campaign aims to further highlight the extraordinary challenges that sarcoma patients face and the need for more sarcoma research and better sarcoma therapies. Sarcomas are rare cancers that develop in the muscle, bone, nerves, cartilage, tendons, blood vessels and the fatty and fibrous tissues.

They can affect almost any part of the body, on the inside or the outside. 10 people every day are diagnosed with sarcoma in the UK

About 3,800 new cases of sarcoma are diagnosed each year in the UK which makes up approximately 1% of all cancer diagnoses. #communityhealth #focxh #hammersmith #healthforall

We are delighted to have launched a new #partnersh

We are delighted to have launched a new #partnership with @interactstroke to support the provision of rehabilitation services to people who have been recently diagnosed with stroke in West London. InterAct Stroke Support tackles these issues with a live, interactive reading service. An InterAct actor/reader will visit the 9 West stroke ward (occasionally others as well) two to three times a week for two hours per visit. They will work with the patients on a one-to-one basis, tailoring the readings and conversation, as much as possible, to the interests and comprehension levels of each patient. We have secured a minimum grant for InterAct but we will match every donation received through our PayPal account, pound per pound, with our own funds, so we will double your solidarity. Following our AGM this week we have a new composit

Following our AGM this week we have a new composition of our Board of Trustees. They bring excellent knowledge and skills to our Board with coaching, financial management, strategic planning, partnership development and knowledge of the third sector in #Hammersmith. The new Board has launched a new strategic plan which includes also a new grant-making scheme for strategic partnerships with local organisations in the community of Hammersmith & Fulham Council with a focus on #communityhealth and #socialinclusion.
